About the Bendigo Bank Southern Art and Craft Trail
WELCOME to the 2011 Bendigo Bank Southern Art and Craft Trail. Winner of the 2010 Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Award for an Event.
Congratulations to our major sponsor which was awarded the Best Local Promotion award for its sponsorship of the 2010 Southern Art & Craft Trail.
We hope you enjoy exploring the many studios, galleries and other venues hosting the varied exhibitions that make up this Trail. While you are wandering the Trail, take the time to visit the many wineries and fine eating places in the area and to view the spectacular wildflowers and scenery of the region.
The Trail is an initiative of Artsouthwa Inc., an organisation formed to promote and market fine art and craft created by artists living and working in the Great Southern region of Western Australia and to assist art and craft practitioners, organisations and galleries with professional and skills development. To this end Artsouthwa conducts projects including this Trail, workshops, exhibitions and the management and maintenance of an online database of its member artists www.artsouthwa.com.au.
No attempt has been made to evaluate the exhibitions and venues you will see. They range from experienced, professional artists to those who work part-time or as a hobby, but all want to share their creativity with you. Similarly, venues range from commercial galleries to displays in unusual places, even some in artist's homes. We hope you enjoy them all.
This year we have continued to present different dimensions to the Trail with several venues presenting art and craft demonstrations and artists’ talks by their exhibitors. In addition, we once again present a “trail” of public artworks which we hope you will enjoy. Also, one of our members will present a special art workshop during the Trail.
